Class: sp Source: 7707 Comment: The famous "Aerobraking Crater" of 1997. Gullies at the rim and a filled crater floor strongly point to a pond-like object. This image was subject to several press releases and and the famous NASA Mars-Water press conference in summer 2000. It was a high priority target of MOC and several later images show seasonal changes of the pond and defrosting albedo marks somewhat like in 1.1 - 11. This may indicate that the pond was not only filled by the gullies of the rim but by water pressed up from below, too. |

Class: sp Source: fha00810 Comment: What first looks like shadow is actually much darker. The histogram operation in A` shows dark at saturation and surrounded by a less dark seam. At B the dark area seems to originate at some points (lower arrows) with evaporite ridges. Rightmost picture shows locations of A, B, and C. |
